Pikes Peak

The plane ride to Colorado was especially enjoyable with the birds eye view of the Rocky Mountains as we descended into Denver International Airport. Even better was the crisp mountain air at the base of Pikes Peak.

The reason I had to make it to the top of the 14,000 foot mountain was to try the donut shop located on the summit. These donuts were made special to accommodate the drastic change in air pressure as you ascend towards the clouds and had stellar reviews. Supposedly the same exact donut would taste entirely different at the base of the mountain so I had to find out for myself.

After navigating the car around twists and turns along the steep mountain side, we arrived at the parking lot where you switch over to take a bus the rest of the way. The end of the bus ride greeted us with a gorgeous view and Pikes Peak Summit House. The light and fluffy treat was accompanied with one of the most beautiful views of green mountain tops.

Descending down the mountain was literally a sign of relief. I could catch my breath again and more importantly take a bite of my donut at ground level. It crumbled apart and was more dense than before. Donuts really are better 14,000 feet in the sky.
